The Ab-Initio Air Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL) Course is available here at the PTT Flight Training Centre at Leeds Bradford International Airport.
The Ab-Initio Air Transport Pilot’s Licence Course is designed to take the potential professional pilot with no flying experience through the training required to gain their Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL)/ Instrument Rating (IR) with Air Transport Pilot’s Licence theoretical knowledge credits in approximately 15 months.
PPT takes each ab-initio student through a modular training route, from minimum flying experience to issue of a Frozen Air Transport Pilot Licence. Our Ab-initio training course is structured to provide every student with the most efficient and cost-effective training solution to becoming an airline pilot.
Cost and time are the major concerns for most people undertaking professional flight training. You can pay as you go during your ATPL training at PTT. While the total cost from 0 hours to frozen ATPL will be around £55,000 including all training*, study books and materials, CAA test fees, licence issue fees and accommodation, you will never pay more than £2,000 in a single payment to us.
Whilst our structured modular ATPL training programme allows a committed candidate to complete it in approximately 15 months, the time it takes you to do your ATPL training is entirely up to you and you can work alongside your flight training, or take breaks from work to complete your training faster.
The PPL (Private Pilot’s Licence) Night Rating and hours building can be undertaken either in Florida or Leeds – or a mixture of the two to suit different timescales or budgets.
The PTT structured modular training programme is designed to minimise both financial cost and the investment in time in achieving your goal. It offers you the flexibility you need to fit your personal and work commitments around your training: we will suit the programme to your specific needs and make all necessary arrangements for you.
*Assumes minimum hours. Extra hours training at published hourly rate.
We work with our training partners Bristol Ground School and Naples Air Centre in Florida to deliver you first class ATPL training.
All the advanced flight training is done at our modern training facilities at Leeds Bradford International Airport.
We are very proud of our pass rates, which are consistently extremely high for both the Commercial Pilot’s Licence and Instrument Rating. Over 95% of our students achieved first series passes on the Instrument Rating course in the last 5 years.
BRISTOL GROUND SCHOOL
PTT has chosen Bristol Ground School to provide the training for the ATPL written exams.
We have been working with Bristol Ground School for over 15 years. It is widely regarded as offering not only the highest quality distance learning package for the ATPL exams, but also the best value for money.
This section of the course is undertaken in two modules, each incorporating a distance learning phase of three to six months with two weeks of classroom work just before the exams.
The distance learning phase is supported by a computer-based training system with telephone and email access to tutors. The classroom element is mandatory for those on approved courses.

NAPLES AIR CENTRE
PTT has been working with Naples Air Centre, which is based at Naples on the west coast of Florida, for over five years. It offers approved EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) pilot training by approved and highly experienced instructors.
Naples Air Centre offers an extremely high standard of training and it is their superb reputation and facilities that make them our training partner for the initial flight training and structured hours building.
It is important to note that under EASA regulations, you cannot start the commercial training module until you have completed all the ground school. You cannot present yourself for the CPL skill test until you have passed ALL the theoretical knowledge exams.
